Thilo Sarrazin

Thilo Sarrazin is considered one of Germany's most prominent political thinkers. His book Germany Abolishes Itself (2010) became a million-selling bestseller that triggered a major public debate. As a professional economist, he was a senior civil servant and politician; he was responsible for the conception and implementation of German monetary union, supervised the Treuhandanstalt, and served on the board of Deutsche Bahn Netz AG. From 2002 to 2009, he was Finance Senator in Berlin, followed by a year and a half as a board member of the Deutsche Bundesbank. His subsequent books also reached and continue to hold top positions on the Spiegel bestseller list.
