The State at its Borders

The history of humankind has always been characterized by migration processes. Throughout these processes, it has consistently shown that immigration mostly benefited only the immigrants. For the peoples and societies that were the destination of immigration, however, immigration, insofar as it occurred in larger numbers, regularly and almost without exception posed a threat to the stability of their societies as well as to the life and limb of the indigenous population.
Immigration was also never historically inevitable. Time and again, peoples and societies succeeded for long periods in successfully defending themselves against undesirable immigration and preserving their own culture. This is demonstrated by Thilo Sarrazin in his profound historical overview of immigration history.
