The Russian House

Ota Filip's fantastic novel brings a great love and its tragic end back to life. Gabriele Münter and Wassily Kandinsky spent six years together in Murnau in the so-called "Russenhaus" (Russian House), until this creative relationship ended with the beginning of the First World War. The author blurs the lines between reality and dream, and the transitions between times are fluid. The result is a colorful, detailed portrait of the two exceptional artists' lives. We will probably never know how it really was, but Ota Filip's narrative artistry provides the reader with the wonderful pleasure of immersing themselves in the life and suffering of the artist couple, as if they had been there themselves.
