About the Author
Valerie Wilms, born in Hanover in 1954, is a mechanical engineer with a doctorate, a former university lecturer, and a technical inspector. In 2005, she joined Bündnis 90/Die Grünen (Alliance 90/The Greens) and was a member of the German Bundestag from 2009 to 2017. From 2009 to 2013, she served as chairwoman of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Sustainable Development, spokesperson for railway policy, and deputy member of the Committee on Transport, Building and Urban Development. From 2013 to 2017, she was chairwoman of the Committee on Transport and Digital Infrastructure and the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Sustainable Development. In 2023, she left Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, stating that the party had lost its willingness to engage in open-ended discussions and impartial consideration of different positions.
