André D. Thess

André D. Thess was born in 1964. After studying physics at the TU Dresden, earning his doctorate at what is now the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, and conducting research in Lyon, Grenoble, and at Princeton University, he was appointed Professor of Technical Thermodynamics at the TU Ilmenau at the age of 34. Since 2014, Thess has been teaching as Professor of Energy Storage at the University of Stuttgart and heading an energy research institute. Visiting professorships have taken him to Stanford University, Nagoya University, Northeastern University Shenyang, and Dalian University of Technology. Thess is a hobby chef and, in addition to his energy storage courses at the University of Stuttgart, offers students insights into cooking, baking, roasting, and distilling in his lecture "Culinary Thermodynamics."
