Black Book State Broadcasting

Germany's public broadcasting service (ÖRR), the most expensive in the world at almost nine billion euros per year, is in crisis. More and more fee payers are refusing to make the compulsory payment of 220.32 euros annually.a The lavish salaries for directors and the fees for "star" presenters have become a source of irritation. Only half of German citizens still trust ARD, ZDF, and Deutschlandradio. Above all, the resentment of the contributors, who are not even represented on the supervisory bodies, is directed against the one-sided political orientation of the approximately seventy ÖRR programs. Politicians, who are responsible for the ÖRR under the State Media Treaty, are standing by idly. The result: The German ÖRR has a reputation for being a state broadcaster. This volume addresses all these grievances, among other things, with contributions from former ARD/ZDF employees.
