Josef Ackermann is one of the most internationally renowned top managers. Famous and controversial. Bank boss, crisis manager, figure of contention. After his studies and military service, he had a rapid career at SKA and was the first foreigner to be appointed CEO of Deutsche Bank and head of the IIF, the global banking association. With the goal of a 25% return on equity, Ackermann incurred the wrath of politicians, journalists, and church leaders. His victory sign during the Mannesmann trial caused national outrage. However, Ackermann is much more than the "cold face of capitalism." He was an eyewitness to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, a close advisor to Chancellor Merkel, domestic and foreign finance ministers, and politicians during the highly dramatic weeks of the global financial crisis, and played a decisive role in preventing a collapse of the global financial system. For the first time, Ackermann reports on what happened behind the scenes and provides insights into his private life, from his childhood days to the world of high finance.
