Greta Wehner

Greta spent 37 years by the side of SPD politician Herbert Wehner: as office manager, driver, assistant, companion, wife, and caregiver. According to former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, "a politician was lost" in Greta Wehner.
Her path is not a typical life story – nor is it a typical emancipation story. Greta did not conform to any stereotype. Many of the expectations placed upon her, she did not fulfill. But in her own way, Greta exceeded all expectations. She asserted herself in the political arena when it was more than ever a purely male domain. Throughout her life, she set standards for humane, democratic, and solidarity-based action.
For over 20 years, author Christoph Meyer was one of Greta Wehner's closest companions. He was able to access her entire estate. The result is a biography that is as exciting as it is personal.
