Greta Wehner

For 37 years, Greta was by the side of SPD politician Herbert Wehner: as office manager, driver, assistant, companion, wife, and caregiver. According to former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, "a politician was lost" in Greta Wehner.
Her path is not a typical life story – nor a typical emancipation story. Greta did not conform to any cliché. She did not fulfill many of the expectations placed upon her. But in her own way, Greta exceeded all expectations. She asserted herself in politics when it was more than ever a pure male domain. Throughout her life, she set standards for humane, democratic, and solidarity-based action.
For over 20 years, author Christoph Meyer was one of Greta Wehner's closest companions. He had access to her entire estate. The result is a biography that is both exciting and personal.
