The Institution

On September 7, 1949, a good four and a half years after the end of World War II and the end of the National Socialist dictatorship, the Bundestag convened in Bonn as the constitutional body of the Federal Republic. September 7, 1949 is thus also the birthday of the Federal Republic of Germany.
This book examines how the work of the Bundestag is structured and organized, and what political influences as well as societal and cultural developments the Bundestag and its members have been exposed to throughout history.
Parliamentary historian Michael F. Feldkamp has been studying the history of the "Hohe Haus" for almost 30 years and presents it by examining the legislative periods individually. This highlights differences and changes in a special way and provides unique historical insights into the institution and its protagonists.
