The Milkman

Jakob Weinberg lives in Munich. He is seventy years old, a survivor of Auschwitz, and highly respected by his friends. They call him "Milkman" because he once found a box of powdered milk in the camp and became the savior of his fellow prisoners. Such is the carefully maintained legend. Weinberg has nothing to complain about: he is wealthy and has a young mistress. At the end of October 1995, it happens: a tissue sample promises trouble, seven days of uncertainty. His inheritance is at stake. His children, his mistress, and his friends pressure Weinberg. Saturday, November 4, a new shock: Yitzhak Rabin, whom Weinberg reveres, is assassinated. He is distraught. A Jew has killed another. Auschwitz menacingly returns to his consciousness. Now the "Milkman" tries to bring order back into his life. When he finally learns the diagnosis, he acts decisively.
