Letters to the Chinese Past

A 10th-century Mandarin from China travels to the present day with the help of a "time-travel compass." He lands in a modern metropolis whose name sounds like Min-chen to him and which is located in Ba Yan. Confused and inquisitive, he embarks on an adventure whose outcome he does not know. In letters to his friend in the Middle Kingdom, he tells of the strange life of the "big-noses" and tries to interpret observations and events that are initially incomprehensible to him.
