Simplicissimus 1896 - 1933

This ambitious editorial project goes back to the roots of the LangenMüller publishing house: at the end of the 19th century, Albert Langen founded Simplicissimus, which remains Germany's most prominent political and satirical weekly magazine to this day. The magazine targeted Wilhelminian politics, bourgeois morality, the churches, civil servants, lawyers, and the military. Simplicissimus quickly became a forum for the artistic and literary avant-garde of its time. Legendary are the drawings of Thomas Theodor Heine, who, as a permanent contributor to the magazine, quickly developed into one of Europe's leading caricaturists. This high-quality, expertly annotated reprint collects the most important caricatures from the publication period of Simplicissimus from 1896 to 1933.
