Pan

Strongly influenced by Dostoevsky, Hamsun wrote this highly acclaimed novel, which is considered a literary example of modern psychology: modern man between weariness of civilization and idealization of nature. A young retired lieutenant retreats to the solitude of the Norwegian North, and in addition to hunting, he dedicates himself to the local ladies. His relationships end unhappily due to his torn character, leading to disaster. The story still allows for various interpretations and remains full of mysteries. Hamsun's lyrical language continues to radiate a very special charm through its simplicity and beauty. Nobel laureate Knut Hamsun is one of Norway's greatest storytellers and "Pan" is considered one of his most influential novels.
