I will not hate

January 16, 2009. A distraught father reports live on Israeli television: "Our house was bombed, my daughters are dead. Oh God, what have we done?" It is Izzeldin Abuelaish, a doctor from Gaza, three of whose eight children were killed by a missile fired by an Israeli tank. His fate goes around the world. In his autobiography, Abuelaish tells of the difficult everyday life in Gaza, of hours of waiting at the border, of family life between hope and despair, and finally of the deadly bombing and his grief. He would have every reason to hate Israel, but instead, he is now fighting all the more for understanding and reconciliation – in memory of his dead daughters.
