"God help our fatherland"

The first comprehensive and source-based study on the role of the House of Hohenzollern between 1918 and 1945. Since the end of the monarchy, the image of the last German Emperor and the imperial family has been subject to considerable distortion. This study allows the sources to speak for themselves, sources that were available to Friedrich Wilhelm Prinz von Preußen to an extent unprecedented for any author who has dealt with this topic before him. As a result, the engagement with the National Socialists within the House of Hohenzollern was extraordinarily lively and controversial. As the author shows, the spectrum ranged from an initial positive assessment of the situation to decisive rejection and, ultimately, active resistance.
