Eternal guilt?

75 years ago, on May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was proclaimed. To mark this anniversary, Michael Wolffsohn presents a self-critical and completely revised new edition of his seminal work "Eternal Guilt". The optimism that prevailed in 1988 with the first edition has now given way to a sobering reflection. From "reparations" to the deceptive normality of today, Wolffsohn takes a critical look at German-Jewish-Israeli relations. The author, who is connected to both sides as a German and a Jew, advocates a relaxed approach to history: neither suppression nor routine atonement rituals help future generations, but only an understanding of the uniqueness of the past that binds both sides together - for better or for worse.
