A well-educated lady

Not respectable? The wild years of a young woman in Schwabing in the 1950s and 1960s, who attracted admirers from all over the world to her small nightclub, whose chansons incited the moral guardians, and who wrote a wonderful piece of Munich's city history. Every evening she entered the stage of her small establishment, next to the crooked Schwabing lantern, and with her wicked voice sang of love and sorrow, of dreams and despair. With the chanson "Aber der Nowak lässt mich nicht verkommen..." she became a dubious celebrity in Schwabing in the 1950s and 1960s – everyone wanted to hear her: students and artists, literati and singers, politicians and celebrities like Erich Kästner and Princess Soraya, Franz Josef Strauß and Kirk Douglas, who even borrowed her car. For all of them, Schwabinger Gisela, as Christian Ude aptly describes her, was a "poetic institution in Occamstraße". Schwabinger Gisela charmingly recounts her eventful life and an era that has influenced the flair of the famous Munich district to this day.
