Conductors and Other Catastrophes

A cult object adored by the audience, or a dictator wielding a baton? Both apply to conductors, often to one and the same person, depending on your perspective. But even orchestral musicians, although naturally team players, are by no means innocent lambs; often they can only defend themselves against "the one up there" with wit and malice.
