The moralizers

Germany no longer has national interests today. At least, that is the official government position. Instead, values are at the heart of politics. This has not been the case only since the "traffic light" coalition took office, but has characterized German politics for many years. What is new, however, is that our government no longer merely restricts itself to living "our values," but also tries to persuade other countries to accept these values. The world is to be healed by the German spirit.
This sense of mission is evident in many areas of foreign policy – for example, when it comes to foreign economic policy, international climate policy, or sanctions policy. The German moralizers go about their work with great missionary zeal and disregard the damage they cause with their policies. Only conviction and good intentions count; responsibility and consequences play no role.
Thus, Germany's national interests are massively impaired. Not only prosperity and competitiveness, but also Germany's influence on the stage of world politics are at risk. It is therefore high time for a fundamental political change, for a departure from political moralism and a turn towards interest-driven realpolitik.
