The Power of Hope

The global confidence of many people is crumbling. Populists, nationalists, and terrorists are not just the cause, but also a symptom of the shaken trust in a secure future. The belief that democracy and the rule of law will continue to develop, even if slowly, is being lost.
Heribert Prantl writes against the feeling of powerlessness and against the supposed pull of external determination. He trusts in the power of hope; this power is not found in cheap optimism; rather, it denies disaster total access. Prantl believes that the future can be shaped positively. And he explains how. The question is not what future one has or endures, the question is what future one wants to have and how one works towards it. The future is not pre-formed, it is formed, in every moment of the present.
