Ephraim Kishon

Ephraim Kishon (1924-2005) was born Hoffmann Ferenc in Budapest. In 1944, he escaped from the Sobibor extermination camp. After the war, he studied sculpture and fled from Hungary to Israel in 1949, where he became the world-renowned satirist Ephraim Kishon. He was married to Sara for over 40 years and had five grandchildren from their three famous children, Raphael, Amir, and Renana. After Sara's death, he married the Austrian writer Lisa Witasek in 2003. His books were translated into 37 languages, reaching a worldwide circulation of over 43 million copies, more than 31 million of which were in German.
