It Must Be Dark to See the Stars
A novel
Four pensioners, one Volkswagen bus, and a parrot
A road trip could be the solution! With the death of her father, everything became unbalanced for Ria. She spontaneously decides to join her granny Charlotte and her friends Mrs. Lensker, Margot, and Hildie on their unusual journey – a journey in order to get something back that has unlawfully changed owners; to find a love that couldn’t be forgotten; to settle a severe debt that is long overdue; and for sweet revenge that has remained untaken for far too long. With a Volkswagen bus they travel across Europe, interrupted by numerous loo breaks (they’re not the youngest anymore), unexpected obstacles (senile stubbornness!), and absurd encounters (who is Signore Verdi, for crying out loud?). A wonderful novel about life, old age, and friendship that lasts through thick and thin.
Jenny Bünnig, born in 1984, studied literature at the University of Duisburg- Essen. At the moment, she is writing her dissertation. In 2012, she was among the five winners in the btb Writing Competition THE HELP with the short story And Sometimes Change Starts With a Ring… In 2013, she won the Moers Literature Award.
