My Life as a White Farmer in Africa
Dream destination: Africa. With the intention of starting a new life as a farmer, Ulf G. Stuberger emigrates to Namibia. Excited about the new lifestyle, only made possible by the exploitation of cheap indigenous labour, initially he conforms to the colonial system of the farmers of German origin, who take unscrupulous advantage of the black rural population, treating them like members of „The Masterrace”. But when he sets out to improve the farm workers’ living conditions, his attempts are met with fierce opposition by „members of the ruling class” and, eventually, he is forced to give up. In this revealing book he describes the unsavoury truth about the „good old days” in the „dreamland” German South West Africa. Ulf G. Stuberger, born in 1949 in Oberhausen on the Ruhr, worked as a
writer and court reporter for the Supreme Court at Karlsruhe and the federal
public prosecutor. He was the only journalist to have followed the first trial
of the Red Army Faction (RAF) ringleaders in court and, in consequence, was
caught in the crossfire and ultimately forced to flee the country. Today he has
returned to Germany and lives with his African wife in Karlsruhe. Read more
