The Water Man
Ralf Steeg and his fight for a clean river
TIRELESSLY AGAINST IGNORANCE AND DESPONDENCE
Ralf Steeg has the solution: clean rivers thanks to sewage collection tanks in the water. It all started with the River Spree, because with every rainfall, dirty water flows into the river, five billion litres each year: faecal matter, oil, medicines, heavy metals… The engineer has developed a globally transferable system to prevent this pollution, but public authorities and politicians keep hampering the project. Sandra Prechtel tells the gripping story of a man fi ghting for his ideals. She describes how Steeg starts rebelling in his youth and stands his ground facing the brutal repressions of the GDR government. She shows how he turns his dream of making the world a better place into a reality and how he hasn’t given up fighting for clean water for the last 14 years.
Sandra Prechtel studied literature, film, and politics and now works as a freelance writer and documentary film director. She lives in Berlin and is currently working on a film about Ralf Steeg.
