The Good and Bad Fortune of Families
Recognising causes and dissolving entanglements
ON THE EFFECTS OF FAMILY SECRETS
Parents and children who never met each other suffer without knowing why. With the aid of examples, Willi Butollo illustrates the complicated relationships that can develop in a family, e.g. through separation or adoption. He explains how concealed relationships nevertheless have an effect – on the child growing up in ignorance, but also on the concealed parent. It is never about judgement, but about demonstrating the psychological strain and the consequences for personality development. Furthermore, the book deals with reprocessing and solving complex family relations.
Prof Dr Willi Butollo, born in 1944, is a psychologist and psychotherapist; since 1974 he has been a tenured professor for clinical psychology and psychotherapy at the University of Munich and an emeritus since 2012. The focus of his work are problems with chronic anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorders. In 1981, he founded the IPS (Institute for Psychotherapy and Supervision), and in 1988 started the MIT (Munich Institute for Trauma Therapy).
