The Holy River Ganges and Its Holy Men
The holy river Ganges, its legends and people
The Ganges flows a distance of 2500 kilometres, from its source in the Himalayas to its estuary. According to devout Hindus its waters are holy – it is the river of the skies, and is meant to bring salvation to mankind. In a series of remarkable photographs and fascinating texts the authors take us on a journey from the Ganges into the mysterious and extraordinary world of pilgrims and ascetics. They document the ceremonies and rituals of the Sadhus, who, having renounced all worldly ambition, search for enlightenment amidst the hustle and bustle of modern Indian society.
