Istanbul
A fascinating glimpse of the city where East meets West Once the centre of Christianity, now the heart of the Islam world, modern-day Istanbul is a vibrant metropolis bridging the gap between tradition and modernity, a vivid mosaic of different cultures, languages and religions. This photo book guides us through Istanbul’s intriguing districts, each of which is a world in its own right. Dieter Sauter gives us a unique glimpse behind the scenes of this richly diverse metropolis: its people,
its beauty, as well as its dark underbelly. He conveys an atmospheric portrait of Istanbul in all its oriental melancholy and vibrant zest for life. Dieter Sauter, born in 1950 in Karlsruhe, has been working as a freelance correspondent for Bavarian television since 1981. In 1991 he reported from Turkey, Jordan and Baghdad for the ARD (German National Broadcasting Corporation), and in 1992 he covered the Balkan wars in Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia. Head of the ARD-studio in Istanbul from 1992-2005, he settled there in 2006. He works as a freelance journalist and lecturer at Bilgi- University’s film and television department. His previous publications at Herbig are: »In the Land of the Hamam« (2006) and »Turkish Roulette« (2007). www.dieter-sauter.com
