Atman - Soul
Preface by Jane Goodall
„These photographs bring to us the voices of the wise through their eyes. We do not need to HEAR their words. It is enough to FEEL them in our hearts. […] Look deeply into those eyes. And discover that ‚peace which passeth all understanding’, that inner peace that Bernd has captured, so brilliantly, in the people pictured in this magnificent book. Atman.”
JANE GOODALL
It is an emotional experience of a special kind, a journey in pictures to the many stories that reveal faces. „The true nature of men” – that is one way of translating Atman, the ancient Indian Sanskrit word for „soul”. The fascinating portrait photographs in this book were taken in different regions and cultures of Asia. With respect, attentiveness, and compassion, Bern Kolb succeeds in establishing an intensive bond. In the moment of shooting, the photographer and his subject are completely composed. During this „blink of an eye”, a spatial and human sense of closeness are formed which cannot only be seen, but felt in the pictures. The viewer becomes witness to touching moments of a certain connection that exists between all humans.
